Aamir Khan signs whopping Rs. 88 crore deal

Posted: 31 May 2013 10:24 AM PDT

Bollywood stars are well known for their hefty charges. The majority of the income of the cine stars is from films and endorsements. The tinsel town is well known for its fair share of competition among the celebrities to get a higher pay than the contemporaries. But, this time it seems that Aamir Khan has won the race with a convincing margin.

Aamir believes in his social responsibilities and therefore he was involved with advertisement campaigns with a strong social message in them. But now a reputed electronics brand wanted to cash on the popularity of the actor and wanted him to appear in a series of advertisements for the brand.

Aamir Khan will be working for the series of advertisements of the brand during the period of a year and he has charged a whooping Rs. 88 crore for the endorsement deal. A few advertisements of the series are already in air and the rest will be shot soon. Aamir will be paid the amount over a certain period of time.

An internal source stated, "After Aamir ended his contract for his previous commercial brand endorsements during the shoot of his TV show with a social message, this is the first ad he has done for a commercial brand. He is careful about choosing endorsements and when the company offered him the deal, he took his own time to sign it. After the initial talks, he quoted a huge amount of Rs 88 crore."

The source farther added that, "Aamir's fee appears to be mindboggling but the brand wanted to shoot a series of ads with him. They were looking forward to a change in their strategy and hence agreed to rope in Aamir even at such a high cost. They are eagerly waiting to see if the sales figures have shown growth after the actor came on board."

The spokes person for the actor didn't wish to comment anything on the topic and Aamir Khan himself remained elusive to face any question. We look forward to the advertisements and their effect on the sales figure of the brand as well. After all this can be a case study to understand the return on investment that a cine star can provide in India and whether it is a wise decision to invest such huge amount on them for brand promotion.

Akshay downplays box office battle with Shah Rukh this Eid

Posted: 31 May 2013 10:24 AM PDT

This Eid two superstars - Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar - will be clashing at the box office with their respective films, but the latter says too much should not be read into this and hoped both movies will do robust business.

"I don't take it as Shah Rukh vs Akshay. Two films releasing together is a positive thing. Eid is a big day and both films will do well. One should not see too much into this," Akshay said this evening.

He was speaking to reporters here at the first look launch of 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again' (OUATIMA).

Ever since Salman Khan's 'Wanted' hit the theatres on Eid in 2009 and did roaring business, it had almost become a tradition for the actor to have a release around that time of the year. But he has no film releasing on Eid this year.

Two movies, 'Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai 2' and 'Chennai Express', will compete at the box office around the festival on August 8.

'Chennai Express' is a romantic comedy directed by Rohit Shetty and it stars Shah Rukh and Deepika Padukone.

The Milan Luthria-directed 'Once Upon A Time...' is a gangster-romantic flick with Akshay, Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha as protagonists. It is a sequel to the 2010 hit 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai'.

Last year, Yash Chopra's 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' and Ajay Devgn's 'Son of Sardaar' released during Diwali. The battle between the two films took an ugly turn when Ajay filed a case accusing Yash Raj Films of abusing its dominant position.

Also, the promo of 'OUATIMA' will release alongside Karan Johar's 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'. This led to rumours that Karan was favouring Akshay over good friend Shah Rukh.

When asked about the same, Akshay said, "I don't think it is right to say such things. Our promo was ready hence it is coming with this film ('Yeh Jawaani...'). We all are friends here. After all we are from same fraternity.

Sana Khan gives her version of the kidnapping story

Posted: 31 May 2013 10:24 AM PDT

Talking exclusively to a national newspaper, the TV actor finally broke her silence by saying that she wasn't involved in the kidnapping case

Days after reports emerged about Sana Khan's alleged involvement in the abduction of a 15-year-old girl, the Bigg Boss 6 reality show contestant finally came out in the open to tell her version of the story. It was reported that Sana had gone missing ever since she was booked in the case. But the actor cleared the air saying, "I am very much here, shooting for my films, attending events and performing at live shows in the last one month."

While talking to a newspaper, Sana who'll be seen in Salman Khan's Mental, claimed that she didn't want to kidnap the minor girl. In fact she went to the girl's house to meet her mother who's a huge fan of the actor and her cousin and his friend who has been arrested didn't even enter the house.

The actor also said, "My cousin Naved insisted that I meet the girl who was sitting inside an ice-cream parlour. If there was a problem between her and Naved, why would she come out to meet me?" and added, "The CCTV of the building in which the girl stays should be having all the evidence – what time I went there and how long I was around – to know the real story. The spot where the family has alleged that the kidnapping took place is a crowded area. If there was any such attempt, many would've seen it. I was not hiding or covering my face; the whole world knows who I am today."

Sana earlier had asserted that the minor girl's family members have been trying to earn money easily framing her in a false case, and vowed to fight the situation.
