Don’t want to only do remakes – Hrithik Roshan

Posted: 14 Jan 2012 03:01 AM PST

Hrithik Roshan Agneepath 475x466

Hrithik Roshan is working in a remake for the first time, but the Bollywood heartthrob is determined not to continue with the genre post- "Agneepath". As far as comparison goes with the original, he is unperturbed.
"I don't want to do remakes only. My premise is that I should not do remakes. Earlier, I didn't even want to hear about it. Now at least I will hear it," Hrtihik told IANS in an interview.
Filmmaker Karan Johar decided to give a makeover to his dad Yash Johar's 1990 production venture "Agneepath", in which Amitabh Bachchan gave one of his best performances as Vijay Deenanath Chahuhan and won a national award.
Karan roped in Hrihik to play the protagonist and with "Agneepath" ready to hit screens Jan 26, expectations are high and people are likely to compare Hrithik with Amitabh. But he is unruffled and believes that "if you do something in your own way, in your individual way, then it will stand out. People will not compare."
The 38-year-old's performance was critically acclaimed in films like "Jodhaa Akbar" and "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" and he even gave blockbusters like "Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai", "Krrish" and "Dhoom 2″.
Despite having such an impressive body of work, he says he can't "act".
He said: "My premise is that I can only act well if I am in that character. I have to know everything about my character. If I am not living it, then I can't act. If you ask me to imitate or act, I can't do it. Others can because they have that talent. I can't act, so I am bad actor."
The new age Vijay Deenanath Chahuhan says shooting for the climax, which is full of blood and gore, was the most difficult part of the movie, helmed by first-time director Karan Malhotra, a former assistant of Karan Johar.
"The climax was shot in Diu and throughout I had to fight with Sanjay Dutt with a bare and bleeding body and the shoot went on for 22 days. It ended up being the toughest schedule of my life," said Hrithik.
If the "Agneepath" promos are creating curiosity, the new villian in B-town – Sanjay Dutt – has grabbed the limelight with his scary look.
Sanjay's look has scared not just the audiences but Hrithik too.
"Once during the shoot Sanjay Dutt gave me such a harsh look that I was taken aback. I thought is this Sanjay Dutt? I was like what's happening," he said.
"In the beginning audiences would feel that it's impossible and Vijay is nothing. If it would have looked easy, then you would not enjoy the journey."
Hrithik was quite sceptical before signing the film, but the strong script convinced him to get on board.
"Karan Johar being a friend forced me and asked me to read the script. When I read the script I was shocked. As an actor it touched me. I was defenceless. I had no reason to say no," said the actor who has teamed up with Priyanka Chopra in the movie. – IANS

deepika padukone backless
Priyadarshan happens to one of the senior most directors of our film industry who has as many as 83 films to his credit in his 30-year career. On the other hand, Deepika Padukone is comparatively new to the industry but has managed to carve a niche for her own with her hard work, beauty and of course, talent.
However, the two have never done a film together owing to the spat they has five years ago when Deepika chose to make her debut with Farah Khan's 'Om Shanti Om' instead of Priyadarshan's project 'Pirates' which was based on the subject of music piracy. The film was supposed to feature Deepika with four other newcomers playing part of a music band.
It was only in 2008, that the two broke the ice when SRK persuaded Deepika to feature in the item song for Priyadarshan's 'Billu Barber'. Now, the director is finally set on a project with Deepika. The film is a family comedy with the Ashtavinayak production house. The film has Abhishek Bachchan as the male lead and again, this will be the first time that Priyadarshan will work with Abhishek.
Says Priyadarshan happily, "We broke the ice during the song in Billu. Now I've a role just right for her. "
"Abhishek and I have been planning projects together for the longest time. We were supposed to do a bio-pic on Chandrashekhar Azad. But who watches historicals any more? I've finally zeroed in on the perfect project for Abhishek. We start shooting in July, " he added.

shilpa shetty pregnant
Bollywood has been sending heartiest wishes to long legged beauty Shilpa Shetty ever since she broke the news of her pregnancy on a social networking site. Since she has a miscarriage last time, she is being extra cautious with this one and made her first public appearance post her pregnancy at the Lohri party of her business partner and good friend Kiran Bawa. Not to mention here that Shilpa looked gorgeous as ever in a traditional anarkali suit sporting her baby bump. Hubby Raj Kundra was by her side all the time and the couple, at present, are busy making preparations for the oncoming addition to their family as well as for the major business expansions they are planning.
Shilpa is in her second trimester of pregnancy but she looked very comfortable and made no attempt to hide her bump with the dupatta, unlike Aishwarya who always made it sure to cover her baby bump during her pregnancy. Check out Shilpa Shetty exuding radiance at the Lohri celebrations….

Rajkumar Santoshi to pair up Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor

Posted: 14 Jan 2012 02:09 AM PST

Rajkumar Santoshi is set to start a film with the novel pairing of Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor. The film will be a romantic comedy and Santoshi maintains that it has in no way any links with his superhit 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' which starred Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. The film goes on floors from Feb 1.
Giving in more details about the film, Santoshi says, "It's in the same creative space as my Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Abhay and Sonam would be captured in a comedy of errors like Ranbir and Katrina, though this is a completely different script and has no bearing on Ajab Prem…"
Santoshi goes a long way in bonding with the lead actors' parents. While he shares a great rapport with Anil Kapoor since 'Lajja', his association with the Deola also goes a long way back. The film will be produced by Santoshi and the cinematography will be done by the ace-cameraman Ravi K Chandran.

If things turn out as planned, cine lovers down South would get to see the unique pairing of South superstar Rajnikanth with Bollywood's reigning beauty Katrina Kaif in the forthcoming flick 'Kochadaiyaan'.
The film will be directed by Rajnikanth's daughter Saundarya and the movie will have Rajni sir play the role of a long-haired king who is a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva. Katrina will play the king's love interest and the film will also have the two shoot for a romantic number composed by music maestro A.R.Rahman. The film will be made in 3D using the performance capturing technology used by James Cameron in the Hollywood blockbuster Avatar.
South is not a new arena for Kaif who has already worked in two Telugu films (Malliswari and Allari Pidugu) and a Malayalam movie (Balaram Vs Taradas). Kochadaiyaan will be her first Tamil film though, of course, only if she can manage to squeeze out some dates from the diaries of three Khans with whom she is currently busy with!!

Bipasha Basu upset with leaked birthday party video

Bipasha Basu's crazy birthday party is out there on the internet for all to see. But the leaked video has left the actress miffed as she feels her privacy has been invaded.

"I'm still in shock that my privacy has been invaded! These were private moments from my birthday that were leaked and I am very upset," tweeted Bipasha.

The actress turned 33 Saturday, and true to her latest song "Ho gayi tunn" from her new release, "Players", Bipasha seemed to be high in the video. She can be seen dancing around with celebrity friends like Milind Soman, Aftab Shivdasani, Sikander Kher and Abhay Deol, amid a lot of drinks and cheers.

She even cut a quirky cake, with special candles on it, and looked fabulous in a nude-coloured gown. She can even be seen dancing in the washroom with a couple of girls, and later grooving on the dance floor with Sikander.

No wonder Bipasha is so upset.

"Just because we are actors doesn't mean we are not entitled to our privacy! These troublemakers should just get more productive with their time!" she wrote. – IANS

I wish I had made ‘RA. One’ better – Shahrukh Khan

Posted: 11 Jan 2012 10:19 AM PST

Shahrukh Khan picture
Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan, who says marketing has become an indispensable part of filmmaking because of the rising ticket prices, used the best marketing strategy to promote his "RA.One", but feels he could have made the sci-fi superhero movie in a better way.

"I think it's very, very important in entertainment to get into merchandising, to get into gaming and be on the net… we cannot negate that any more, whatever the level of film you are making," Shah Rukh, who was honoured at the NDTV Profit Business Leadership Awards 2011 with the title of Creative Entrepreneur of The Year in Mumbai, said in a tete-a-tete with the channel.

SRK, known for coining some of the best marketing strategies to sell his films, associated with over 50 brands for his mega-production "RA.One". However, he received mixed reaction for the movie, which was directed by Anubhav Sinha.

"It's very important because a film like 'RA.One' lends itself a little more, it's for children, it's superhero and stuff. I wish I had made it a little better because people started jumping on my back, 'Itna market kiya aur aisa picture banaya tumne (You marketed it so much, and made a film like this)', So, I got a little waylaid on that," he added.

The movie, a sci-fi project, had a production cost of Rs.150 crore, and according to reports, his tie-ups to market the film were worth Rs.52 crore. Shah Rukh, a graduate in Economics, feels it's important to look at films as a product nowadays.

"I think you really need to take films and think of it as a product and put it across, and inform everyone what this product is because it is very expensive to go and buy the ticket.

"You know it's Rs.500-Rs.700, so you need to tell the customer this is what it is going to be. The more the channels you can inform on, I think more you are right about your product," said Shah Rukh, who had begun promoting "RA.One" months before its release.

With "RA.One", King Khan also brought into spotlight the importance of technology in taking Indian cinema global.

"To be really honest, even to the other producers and myself, I tell them put it (money) into the film, because I truly believe the technology and you know the way Indian films look… it's very important to go to the next level in terms of technology, otherwise we will lose.

"…the danger is not that we are going to crossover or not, the danger is whether we are going to lose the Indian audience for the Indian films. We are the only country in the world which still has regional audiences, so to say. Otherwise Hollywood has taken over everywhere, and the only way we can make sure that we continue to have youngsters like our films is increasing our technology.

"Otherwise 10 years from now there will be no Hindi films and I say that with utmost sadness. I really feel that if we don't push it a little more in terms of marketing and technology, we will not have Hindi films," added the 46-year-old.

The event, which took place in Mumbai Saturday, will go on air Jan 14 on NDTV Profit. – IANS

Bollywood soon, but not yet – Madhuri Dixit

Posted: 11 Jan 2012 10:16 AM PST

madhuri dixit mumbai1 475x714
Will Madhuri Dixit feature in "Ishqiya" sequel or will she be seen as a judge on "Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa" yet again? Even as several rumours dog the actress's return to the arc lights, she hints that her fans will have to wait a little longer for her to make any official announcement.

The 44-year-old was in town Tuesday to talk about her association with dental care brand Oral-B as the Chief Smile Officer of its Smile India Campaign.

When she was asked when she will be ready to spread smiles in tinsel town, Madhuri told IANS: "Well soon, not yet!"

She is quite secretive about her work plans so far, but admitted she is adjusting well with her husband Sriram Nene, and two kids – Arin and Raayan.

"Mumbai is treating me well. I am smiling, so yes, it's great," she said.

Madhuri, who delivered memorable performances in "Tezaab", "Ram Lakhan", "Sajan", "Beta", "Dil", "Hum Aapke Hain Koun!", "Dil Toh Pagal Hai" and "Devdas", had shifted abroad after tying the knot in 2002 with US-based doctor Nene.

But now she has relocated to Mumbai.

She accepted the role of a narrator to launch a new general entertainment channel Life OK!, and so there have been doubts whether Sony Entertainment Channel will let her sit on the judge's seat for the next season of dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" or not.

For now, the lady with a million-dollar smile, is on a mission to spread healthy smiles across the nation through the Smile India Campaign.

"I always spread smiles for the country wherever I go. But I want other people to do that more often. That's why I have associated with this smile movement.

"I have always been appreciated for my smile ever since I joined films and people have appreciated me for that. My fan base says that the best thing about you is your smile, and I felt this was a nice way to give back," said Madhuri.

The actress says the pre-requisite for a good smile is good teeth, and people should "brush twice a day, for two minutes each and visit the dentist every six months". – IANS

Aurangabad crowd goes berserk over Priyanka Chopra, Shahid Kapoor

Posted: 11 Jan 2012 09:55 AM PST

Teri Meri Kahaani priyanka shahid
It became a Herculean task for Kunal Kohli to shoot a song sequence with Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra for his tentatively titled "Teri Meri Kahaani" amidst unmanageable crowd in Aurangabad in Bihar. But he thanks his lead actress for maintaining her composure.

Approximately 40,000 curious, eager, aggressive tourists and bystanders showed up to ogle, jostle and heckle at the Aurangabad Fort. The larger nightmare for them was getting to the fort. The cars carrying Shahid, Priyanka and Kohli's unit had to halt a good two km away from the interior of the fort. There was no choice but to walk the rest of the way.

"We did have some difficulties. But it was all fine. The walk was tough. We had to go up to the foot of the fort on Tata Sumos and then there was no road, so we had no choice but to walk," said Kohli.

"I've to say Priyanka is a very gutsy girl. We were all concerned about her security specially. But she was calm. Inside the fort people just bought tickets and kept trooping in. Yeah, we did have problems keeping them out of camera range and on a couple of occasions there were aggressive fans who tried to muscle in their way to get Shahid and Priyanka's attention. I've to thank the local administration and my team for managing the shoot," he added.

The crowds were apparently uncontrollable and had to be warned off and threatened to back off.

"The Aurangabad Fort has at any given time as many as 12,000 visitors. Kunal Kohli couldn't get permission to restrict the area. So he had to shoot with Priyanka and Shahid with the fort open to the public. As news spread about the two stars shooting in Aurangabad, crowds swelled inside the fort to unmanageable numbers," said a source.

After a point during the shooting of the song, things began to get out of hand.

Onlookers would repeatedly get into camera range, and when they were told to back off, they became unruly and finally unmanageable.

But Kohli's troubles at Aurangabad are not over.

Apparently fans and gawkers who had collected at the fort have taken pictures of Shahid and Priyanka shooting the song together and posted the pictures on microblogging sites, thereby giving away the pair's carefully-guarded look.

"The song is set in 1910 and we had worked hard on Priyanka and Shahid's look. But the look is out on Twitter. How do you control fans from clicking pictures? You can't! You just have to bear with it," said Kohli.

"But I really don't think the crowds in Aurangabad were doing anything they shouldn't have. It was perfectly justifiable for them to get excited about two big stars in their small town. The last star who shot in Aurangabad was Sunil Dutt more than 30 years ago. We tried to keep it a secret. But that was impossible," he added. – IANS

Arbaaz Khan and Anurag Kashyap, who locked horns on Twitter last year, cleared their misunderstandings at Farhan Akhtar's surprise birthday party in Mumbai.
"Met Anurag Kashyap at Farhan's party after his Twitter outburst. Had a long chat. All izz well now," Arbaaz tweeted Monday. The party took place Sunday midnight.
Arbaz also posted a picture of the two of them in a side-hug pose with each other, displaying happy times.
The Twitter war between the two filmmakers began after it was announced that Arbaaz will direct the sequel of 2010 blockbuster "Dabangg", helmed by Anurag's brother, Abhinav.
According to reports, Anurag had felt Abhinav was asked to leave the project. So in anger, he posted negative comments about Khan brothers – Arbaaz and Salman. What followed was an exchange of bitter retaliation.
Once Anurag learnt that Abhinav had opted out of "Dabangg 2″ himself, peace prevailed. But it is only now that Anurag and Arbaaz have buried the hatchet.
"Dabangg 2″ features Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, and southern star Prakash Raj as the villain. The film will release towards the end of 2012. – IANS

Even as the fifth season of Big Boss ends with Juhi Parmar emerging as the winner amidst much glamour, glitter and performances, the co-host Salman Khan expresses his intention to return with the next season of Big Boss. On the Bigg Boss 5 sets at Karjat, the actor said that he would love to return for the next season of the show.
"It's still a couple of months away. I don't know what the channel is thinking. But I love this show. And if they really want me back, I will make time for them," he said.
His co-host Sanjay Dutt, however, doesn't sound as confident about returning to the show that launched him on the small screen "I have my options open. This show made me realise the kind of audience connect TV has. And I'd like to connect with the viewers again, even if it's not through this show."
