Don't marry: Devgn to Saifeena

Posted: 28 Jan 2011 11:13 PM PST

While one thought that Ajay Devgn coming solo on Karan Johar's Koffee With Karan might turn out to be damp squib, Devgn has conversely turned out to be an absolute shocker. In a statement, which threw Karan Johar almost off his chair, Devgn looked straight into Karan's eye and said that Bebo and Saif should not tie the knot. The story goes that Karan was in his favourite 'Rapid Fire Round', when Devgn blurted out that Saif and Kareena should not marry. What exactly happened? "Well, Karan asked Ajay to render some piece of marital advice to Saif and Kareena. Without batting an eyelid, Ajay said, 'Don't get married'. If it wasn't a 'Rapid Fire Round' Karan would have definitely probed why Devgn holds this opinion about Saif's and Kareena's future," says our source. Is that statement going to remain in the episode? Said the source, "Why not? That's quite a statement, isn't it?" But knowing Karan to be a curious cat, we wouldn't be surprised if he asked Ajay why he said that about Saif and Kareena. What is surprising is that the advice of not to marry has come from a man who himself is rather happily married to KJo's good friend. According to a friend of Devgn, the statement was made in good fun. "Woh usne masti mein bola hoga," he said. Devgn, Kareena and Saif remained unavailable for comment. Ditto for Fazila Allana, managing director of SOL, which produces the show. If it weren' t a ' Rapid Fire' round KJo would have probed further for sure

After SRK, Berlin hosts Aamir

Posted: 28 Jan 2011 11:12 PM PST

Indian cinema fans in Europe are basking in the company of Khan after Khan and they can't believe their luck. First, it was Bollywood heartthrob Shah Rukh Khan who spent three months in Berlin and now Aamir Khan arrives here early next month . Aamir will be here as a member of the international jury of the 61st Berlinale that opens Feb 10. "It's not that we are in the habit of collecting Khans. But we greatly admire the work of both Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan and are totally excited that Aamir will be with us this year," Dorothee Wenner, Berlinale's special representative for Indian cinema, told IANS. Wenner says the festival has admired Aamir as a producer and actor for many years and has been trying to get him to participate in the Berlinale for a long time. "Of course, it is not enough to want Aamir in our midst. It is about schedules and whether he is free from work to be part of the Berlinale. The logistics were always a problem. Aamir's work schedule did not allow him to be part of the Berlinale earlier. We are very happy that he is with us this year," Wenner said. Festival director Dieter Kosslick saw Aamir's "Peepli Live" at the last Berlinale and liked the film so much that Wenner was asked to work overtime to make sure that Aamir participated in the event this year. "I think it is great that such a versatile filmmaker is on the Berlinale jury. He knows every aspect of filmmaking, from acting, to directing and, of course, producing. I hope he will stay in that last role in the coming years because it means we can look forward to more unusual and surprising Hindi films. Also, if you look at the way he promotes his projects, I would want him as a producer if I were to make a film," Gerlinde Seitner from the Austrian Film Institute told IANS. It is Wenner who first introduced Shah Rukh to audiences here and now she is very happy to host Aamir. Shah Rukh first participated in the Berlinale with "Om Shanti Om" in 2008. Berliners still recall how Shah Rukh had stopped traffic in the German capital with his charming ways. He was again at the Berlinale in 2010 for the world premiere of his last film "My Name Is Khan" and spent the last three months of the last year filming for Farhan Akhtar's "Don 2", which is partly shot in Berlin. Berliners are thrilled that one Khan has barely left the city when Aamir will soon be with them. The Bollywood participation at this year's Berlinale includes the world premiere of "7 Khoon Maaf". It has been selected for screening in the Panorama special section that picks cinema on the basis of innovative narrative styles and unusually critical images of society. Audiences will watch the film in the company of director Vishal Bharadwaj, producer Ronnie Srewvalla and leading lady Priyanka Chopra. Priyanka fans look forward to her return to Berlin after having feasted on her presence just a few months ago when she was in the city shooting for "Don 2". Another Indian film is "Gandu" by Kaushik Mukherjee and Om Puri's "West is West" will also be screened. Award winning Shekhar Kapur will bring no film to the festival but he will join a panel for discussions with production designer Alex Mcdowell and others on "Play as Process: World building and New Ways to Imagine". Berlinale is one of the most prestigious film festivals and the international jury led this year by Italian actress Isabella Rossellini is the last word on which lucky film director gets to take home the Golden and Silver Bears at the end of the 11-day gala which concludes Feb 20. The other members on the international jury along with Aamir are producer Jan Chapman, actress Nina Hoss, director Guy Maddin, costume designer Sandy Powell and Iranian director Jafar Panahi.

Ranbir, Kat spotted together

Posted: 28 Jan 2011 11:11 PM PST

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, who are known to have sorted out their differences recently, seem to be back together and very much a couple. What proof? Well, only recently, the two were spotted in Ranbir's red, spectacular sportscar, the Audi R8. Apparently, Ranbir loves driving his sportscar and took Katrina Kaif for a spin in it recently. The couple was spotted on the roads of Juhu in suburban Mumbai. Ranbir was shooting in Gurgaon for 'Rockstar', a film directed by Imtiaz Ali. Once he returned to Mumbai, he went for a drive in his car with Katrina by his side. Ranbir Kapoor was also linked with his 'Rockstar' heroine Nargis Fakhri. However, with things having smoothened out between him and Kat, we don't think Nargis is going to get the opportunity to sit in his two- seater four-wheeler just yet. You see, special places are for special people.

Oscar win for Best Actress ups divorce risk: Study

Posted: 28 Jan 2011 11:06 PM PST

Washington, Jan 29 - A new study has revealed that Oscar winners in the Best Actress category are at a higher risk of divorce than nominees who do not win. A long line of best actress winners including Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Halle Berry and Kate Winslet experienced the end of their marriages not long after taking home their awards, say researchers at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management and Carnegie Mellon University. On the other hand, Best Actor winners do not experience an increase in the risk of divorce after an Oscar. "Research has shown that, in the general population, gender differences have historically given roles with greater power and status to men and roles with lesser status and power to women. Studies have demonstrated that breaching this social norm within a marriage-for example, when a wife earns more than her husband-can strain the relationship," said Tiziana Casciaro, an assistant professor of organizational behavior at the Rotman School, who co- authored the study with Colleen Stuart, a post- doctoral fellow at Carnegie Mellon University, and Sue Moon, a PhD student at the Rotman School. "It appears that even the marriages of Hollywood actresses at the top of their careers are not immune to the consequences of violating social norms that affect the wider population. Our results suggest that the sudden success reduces the longevity of their marriages," said Stuart. The study looked at the 751 nominees in the best actor and actress categories of the Academy Awards between1936 to 2010. The results show that Best Actress winners have a 63 percent chance of their marriages ending sooner than the marriages of non- winners. The median marriage duration for Best Actress winners was 4.30 years, substantially lower than the 9.51-year marriage duration for non-winners. By contrast, the difference between Best Actor non- winners (median = 12.66 years) and Best Actor winners (median = 11.97 years) was not statistically significant. (ANI)

Kisser Emraan Hashmi: Will Mallika Sherawat Bury The Hatchet?

Posted: 27 Jan 2011 10:52 PM PST

Emraan Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat had created quite a lot of furor with their on screen chemistry in their films together earlier in their foray into Bollywood. One such flick that was a rage was Murder what with their hot lip lock and all that. However things soured between the two after that the two were not exactly in the best of terms and things soured between the two as rumors about the cold vibes between them was running wild in film circles. But as they say in filmdom there are no permanent friends or enemies. Thus going by B town rules it was recently reported that during the shooting of the Madhur Bhandarkar flick Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji there was an argument between the actors Emraan Hashmi and Tisca Chopra. Now, the argument was reportedly due to the fact thatTisca Chopra had passed some comment against Mallika Sherawat which was not taken lightly by Emraan. Thus an argument of sorts was started between the two which was quite surprising for all the cast and crew members of the film. Everyone was well aware that things were not exactly perfect between Emraan and Mallika and when the actor came on to defend the Hiss actress it was quite a scene created on the sets of DTBHJ. Well seems like Mallika Sherawat does have a genuine friend in Emraan, and a real good friend is exactly what this sexy gal is in need right now. Will Mallika go ahead and bury the hatchet between them? Will she be genuinely thankful to her co actor in Murder? Wait ' n' watch! -- Sampurn Wire

Well seems like Big B is soon going to create an entirely new fashion for the older generation. -- Sampurn Wire

Posted: 26 Jan 2011 07:04 AM PST

Well, we all know that nudity and boldness did not give the push to big mouthed and big busted bombshell Mallika Sherawat' s career. So, the sex kitten is trying other avenues instead. Transported back to Bollywood from Hollywood, Mallika is trying her hand with judging the reality show ' Chak Dhoom Dhoom 2' . She has also signed up for an item number ' Razia Gundo Mein Phas Gayee' in Anees Bazmee' s ' Thank You' for free and now, the latest one is that she will be seen all covered up and in a deglamorised avatar in her next, Case No 99 sharing screen space with big names like Nana Patekar and Naseeruddin Shah. Scripted by Dilip Shukla of Dabangg fame and directed by debutant director Praful Parekh, the film goes on floors in March. Nana Patekar will be seen in the role of a CBI officer in this suspense thriller about an insurance scam of 100 crores. The producer of the film, C G Patel, confirmed the news saying, "Yes, we have signed Mallika and paid her the signing amount, but some formalities are yet to be finalised. Nana, who is a great friend, is also on board and is keenly supervising the project. We are still in talks with Naseerji." Patel also stressed on the fact that Mallika had absolutely no hesitations in signing a role which
was in stark contrast to the roles she has played earlier. He said, "In fact she loved the script. She has a very powerful role and strong dialogue with Nana. People will be surprised to see her in the film." So, the dare bare act is ' Hisss- tory' for Mallika now??
