Toronto, Apr 6: The glamour and glitter of Bollywood will once again make its way into the award giving ceremony (IIFA) to be held in Toronto. The ceremony is slated to be held during the last week of June. The much awaited award gathering organized by the Indian International Film Academy is always marked by radiance and grandeur, attracting a pompous blend of stars, glitterati, critics, filmmakers and producers. Amongst the various categories of awards, those meant for the best actor, actress and their supporting counterparts attract maximum attention. While the inspirational "My Name is Khan" puts Shahrukh in contention, the others in reckoning are Salman, Ajay Devgan and Hrithik Roshan. Last but not the least, young and dashing Ranbir Kapoor has also found a place in this prestigious category. The films attributable to the respective actors are the commercially successful Dabaang, action packed Once upon a time in Mumbai and the romantically gloomy Guzaarish. The political scheming of Rajneeti deftly portrayed by Ranbir also ensures him a place in this cherished category. As far as the actresses are concerned, besides the experienced ones like Katrina and Aishwarya, the recently introduced Anushka Sharma has secured a nomination for her film Band Baaja Baraat. The supporting category includes some of the more recent names like Emraan Hashmi, Amrita Puri and Prachi Desai. It remains to be seen who comes up with the best in each category.

Mumbai, Apr 6: It was quite novel that Soha Ali Khan shared big screen space for prime time with her mother Sharmila Tagore, a legendary actress of Indian cinema. Only missing was her brother Saif Ali Khan who did not felt any urge to attend any of events related to promotion of film. His high involvement with his film `Agent Vinod' did not provide him an opportunity to support his mother as well as sister. Though he was invited for the promotions but he was not present by their side. Moreover, an interview was organized for Saif but he could not maintain his commitment. As stated by a source, presence of Saif was felt necessary since it could provide optimal boost to the film and he was requested to appear. Soha had boldly mentioned that she is independent and has not taken her brother's assistance for any of her films. She added that whether it was her education or job; her aim was to do it herself. She thinks that neither Saif has recommended her for any film nor she has taken his consultations for any of her projects. She eventually said that though as a family they are united but professionally they prefer to be distinguished. She strongly perceives it is a space that is merely hers

Cinema, cricket will always be a unifier: Amitabh

Posted: 05 Apr 2011 03:22 AM PDT

New Delhi, April 5 - The euphoria around India's World Cup victory has still not sunk in, says Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who believes that there is no greater unifier in the country than cinema and cricket. 'A prominent author and thinker on a public platform admitted that sport and film were the two most fertile ingredients in bringing a nation together. Nothing could be truer. They always were and shall always be, a unifier,' Amitabh posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com in the wee hours of Tuesday. The 68-year-old, who sent congratulatory messages to Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh, hit the streets with his son, Abhishek and daughter-in- law Aishwarya, in their car, to celebrate India's win with Mumbaikars Saturday night. 'The joyous mood retains its vigor. God bless them, their effort and the effort of the entire team. And god bless India. 11 Indians have invigorated an entire nation of almost a billion and half, and perhaps in other parts of the world too with their dedication,' he added. Amitabh finds it 'bizarre' that after playing together for the home country, cricketers will now be battling against each other in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) beginning Friday. 'It still has not sunk in. And really they have very little time on their hands for it to do so, for, in another couple of days all those that participated for their country, shall now be pushing their energies and allegiance to their respective teams in the IPL, about to start on the 8th of this month!! 'Those against the other shall now be playing for each other in the same team! And shall be fighting with equal vigor and commitment for their side, as they did for the WC! This is such a bizarre situation. How soon sentiments shall shift from national to personal teams representing different regions of the country. Rivals for the past month, team mates for the next!!,' he posted. Showing concern for the fans, he wrote: 'And the fans and the followers and the supporters. What of them ? How quickly they shall have to change their minds and thoughts too - rooting for those they wanted to win, now against them. Cricket is a funny business!!.' IANS
