Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan: ‘I Am Hariprasad’ May Bring Them Together Again!

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 10:38 PM PST

December 4, 2010 : Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is a very moody actor and once he gets miffed with someone, it becomes very tough for that person to please him. We have seen Salman Khan being paired with Bollywood hottie Priyanka Chopra in various films but now they are not on very good terms and the reason is Priyanka's denial to work opposite Salman in Main Aur Mrs. Khanna . Initially, director Prem Raj Soni wanted Priyanka to do the femalelead role in Main Aur Mrs. Khanna but when he could not get her, Kareena was signed. This did not go well with Salman and he started maintaining a distance from the actress. They rocked together in the films like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love, God Tussi Great Ho so Soni is looking forward to cast them in his next project titled I Am Hariprasad . Soni has already signed Salman Khan for the male lead and is expecting to sign Priyanka soon. We hope Soni turns peacemaker between the two actors and I AmHariprasad brings them together once again. The script of the movie has been written by the filmmaker himself and he claims the project to be quite different from the usual love story like Main Aur Mrs. Khanna. He promisesto offer lots of humor and drama in this ambitious project. We hope Soni's mission to bring Salman and Priyanka together becomes successful so that audience can watch another laughriot by next year! -- Sampurn Wire

Bhupen Hazarika bequeaths assets to Lajmi, irks family

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 10:35 PM PST

Guwahati, Dec 4 - Music maestro Bhupen Hazarika has bequeathed a major portion of his properties and assets to long time companion Kalpana Lajmi, giving her credit for the rise in his career graph. But the decision has irked his family members who are crying foul. 'Kalpana Lajmi is my business partner since 1977 and she took the entire and whole responsibility for my tremendous career rise and prior to her joining me I was penniless and hadonly Rs.35 in hand,' the legendary 85-year-old singer said in a registered will, a copy of which is available with IANS. 'She (Kalpana) has looked after me sincerely and carefully since 1977 even while I was ill, in distressed condition, mentally depressed condition, which no oneelse has done.' There is no formal confirmation about the two having got married. There is an age gap of about 28 years between the two. Among the movable and immovable assets bequeathed to Kalpana are film and television companies, bank accounts and personal company accounts, investments, cash, gold, jewellery and properties in both India and the rest of the world. 'I could not have emerged unscathed from my distressed and bad times without the sincerehelp and cooperation of Kalpana Lajmi and as such after my death she will be the sole owner of bothmy movable and immovable properties as well as those which will be purchased in future,' Hazarika's 'will' signed Dec 12, 2003, read. 'I hereby revoke all the wills, codicils, and other testamentary disposition made by me hereto and declare this to be my last willand testament.' So what are the major assets willed to Kalpana? 'All professional equipment from film and sound, the flat at 77 B, Gold Club Road, Kolkata, flat at Andheri (West), Mumbai, two plotsof land measuring 1,240.01 sq metres in Pune, existing bank accounts, my pension money, car, rights and receipts of sales both in cash and cheque of film and television software made by me,' the will said. Interestingly, the will mentions that in the event of Kalpana predeceasing him, the properties and other assets would go to hermother Lalitha G. Lajmi. 'In case she (Kalpana) predeceases me, all that is mentioned herein will be after my death given to her mother LalithaG. Lajmi and after her death (the properties) will belong to her son Devdas G. Lajmi,' states Hazarika'swill. The will, however, also mentions some joint properties shared among his brothers and sisters, besides some assets willed to his 59-year-old son Punnag Tej Hazarika based in New York from his estranged wife Priyamvada Patel Hazarika now settled in Canada. The content of the 'will' by the musical legend has angered some of his immediate family members. 'I cannot imagine Bhupenda being penniless in 1977 as mentioned in the 'will' as by then he was already a star and a hero having won National Awards,' Hazarika's younger brother Nripen told IANS. 'I believe the will was made under pressure or influenced by someone.' Similar views were echoed by other family members. 'The will mentions about some of our joint properties being bequeathed to us. How can Bhupenda will us those propertieswhich technically or legally are not his,' questioned Samar Hazarika, a well-known singer andyounger brother of the Dadasaheb Phalke award winner. The will, however, would come into effect and can be executed only after the death of the internationally acclaimed singer, lyricist, filmmaker, and one of India's best-known balladeers. Hazarika has composed soulful music for films like 'Rudaali', 'Saaz' and 'Gajagamini'. (Syed Zarir Hussain can be contacted at zarir.h@ians.in) IANS

Priyanka Chopra Will Not Dance For Rs. 3 Crore!

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 10:32 PM PST

December 4, 2010 : Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra has taken a leaf out of once friend Kareena Kapoor's pages. Like Bebo, she too, will not shake a legat a private function. It will be recalled that Kareena Kapoor andbeau Saif Ali Khan had refused to dance at a wedding, similarly Priyanka Chopra will not dance for a five star hotel's New Year celebrations. What is surprising is the fact that the actress had been offered a whopping amount of Rs.3 crore to be part of the celebrations on New Year's Eve. So is 3 crore too less an amount to see Priyanka Chopra match steps to a song? According to reports circulating inthe media, Priyanka Chopra has reservations about dancing in front of a live audience especially at private parties. Therefore, theactress graciously turned down the offer made to her, though she knew that the money at stake was more than she would ever get for a film performance. Priyanka Chopra at present rakesin a sum of 1.5 crore per film, which comes armed with months long work schedule. The New Yearperformance, on the other hand, would have given her a sum of 3 crore for only three hours of work apart from rehearsals! Looks like our Piggy Chops is taking a little extra care about her public image nowadays! However, New Year Eve parties with actresses as the star attraction is not a rare sight. Thisyear too various five star hotels will get to see the likes of BipashaBasu and Mallika Sherawat gyrateto the music. -- Sampurn Wire

Humanity is going down the drain: Lushin Dubey

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 10:28 PM PST

New Delhi, Dec 4 - After entertaining theatre lovers with 'Life of Gautam Buddha' and 'Muskaan', actor-director Lushin Dubey has returned to stage withher new play 'Ji Saab'Ji' that touches upon terrorism. She feelsthe human race is going through a tough phase. 'Human communion, the essence ofhumanity, is going down the tubes. Everywhere you see peopleare unleashing their darker side instead of embracing the positivity inside us humans. There are negative and positive forces in all of us; so what are we to do? We have to rise above that,' Dubey told IANS. Dubey's play 'Ji Saab'Ji', staged atSri Ram Centre, Mandi House, Wednesday and Thursday, re-enacts a situation common enough in a terror-prone countrylike India and attempts to shed light on how man has become his own worst enemy. 'I'm not trying to preach, this is just a very situational play with such a background, it's been handled very carefully. It's about an old man, an assistant who is dying; a police man who represents law; and a niece who is like a woman gluing everything together. So it involves several characters and is a very sensitively done piece,' she said. 'I'm not trying to spearhead a change. It is just something I feel and wanted to share with people. These issues are sensitive to every individual and only when westart questioning can we move forward; that is my whole point,' she said. The play, Dubey claims, aims only at making people look inward and understand how we can bring about a change in society. 'The 'manch' (theatre) is my medium, like a book is a writer's medium. When I say I want to do this and show it to audiences, it isnot to start a war; it is just to introspect, since change always begins with introspection,' she said. She also voiced her opinion on how social activists have sufferedand how freedom of speech cannot be curbed. 'India's is one of the most beautiful democracies and it is an even tougher democracy becauseof the diversity. We have to be proud that we have such a democracy, you can't stop people, you can't put a lock on people's mouths because they voiced an opinion,' she said. She is not only known for her work in theatre but has also done her bit in Bollywood with roles in films like 'Amu' and yet to be released 'Delhi Belly'. 'I play Imran Khan's mother-in-law in 'Delhi Belly' but it hasn't released as yet,' she said. (Rishabh P. Nair can be contacted at rishabh.n@ians.in) IANS
