Tahsan Rahman Khan was a brilliant student of IBA. After completion of his studies he went abroad with a scholarship to obtain a degree. He was an important member of ' Black' , a leading band of our country. Alongside a talented music composer and keyboard player, he is also a successful solo singer. On the contrary, he is also an acknowledged TV actor, model and anchor. By profession he is a faculty of a renowned private university in Dhaka. In a recent interview with daily sun, Tahsan spoke of his recent activities and few more things… .. What are you doing in recent times? I am a full time faculty at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and that' s why I have to be busy most of the time there. As teaching occupies most of my time I do music only in my spare time, music is my passion. After a long break, I am going to release my 5th solo album Prottyabartan, the album will come to the market hopefully on 11 January. What type of songs are you going to introduce in this album? The album will be a typical Tahsan album, featuring my own style of music. In this album there will be a total of 10 tracks. Among them 5 tracks will be in new style, like jazz, techno and one will be a heavy metal song. Listeners will also get a duet song with my wife Mithila. All the songs are composed by me. T. I. Antor, Mithila and Faisal Rabbi have written lyrics for some songs. What is the background of your singing career? I felt an attachment with singing from my early days. At first I learned singing at Bangladesh Shishu Academy and then music at Chhayanaut. There I got the chance to have knowledge in traditional musical instruments. But later I practised with different instruments with my friends there and used to experiment with different music and ideas. Thus I became a music enthusiast. Why are you not singing fulltime? I think my singing style is different. I am not interested to take it as a profession. On the other hand, if you have a close look at the present music scene, it will become very clear that the rate of music piracy has increased a lot. Therefore, the sales of the albums are suffering. So I think it is quite risky to adopt singing as a profession. But the main thing is, music is my hobby, my passion and I don' t want to exchange it with occupation. Do you want to mention any one as your singing guru? I love singing of many singers of the country but I don' t want to mention any names. When it comes to international music I am a great fan of David Gilmour, an English rock musician and one of the lead singers and a main lyricist of the progressive rock band Pink Floyd and Mark Knopfler, British music maestro, the lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter of the British rock band Dire Straits. When did you begin your journey in the musical arena? My first album was released with the band ' Black' in 2001. Since then I have been continuing singing. How many albums have you released so far? Till date I have released four solo albums and they are Kothopokothon, Krittodasher Nirban, Alo and Nei. And as mentioned earlier, the 5th solo album Prottabartan is ready to be released in the next week. Besides, I have three albums with the band Black and those are Amar Prithibi, Utshober Por and Anushilon. I contributed tracks in more than six mixed albums along with various artistes. Those are, Utshorgo, Tune into Radio Mania, Ke Aanke Onno Chobi, Boka Manushta, Jewel with Stars, Bondhuta and so on. What is your recent work in TVC? Recently I have worked in a Close-Up TVC with my wife Mithila which went on air a few days ago. Iftekhar Ahmed Fahmi is the director of the TVC. What is your future plan with singing? I want to establish my own style in the music scene. I would like to introduce a style which is a blend of rock music and chorus based melody. I think today most of our music has become just the extension of bollywood movie songs. And I don' t want to walk on that course. |
