Will red prove lucky for ‘sensual’ Vidya Balan again?

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 11:00 AM PST

If the success of "The Dirty Picture" has revealed the "sensual" side of Vidya Balan, it has also left her superstitious about the colour red. That's one reason she insisted on a red sari for her item number in "Ferrari Ki Sawari".
The 33-year-old, who became a rage after portraying the bold and beautiful Silk in "The Dirty Picture", will be seen in a Lavani item number "Mala jau dya na ghari" in Vidhu Vinod Chopra Productions' "Ferrari Ki Sawari".
According to sources, Vidya insisted on being featured in a red sari instead of the traditional green attire for the Lavani number.
Confirming the news, director Rajesh Mapuskar said: " 'The Dirty Picture' was such a huge hit that she feels that red is her lucky colour. The result is looking fantastic."
Vidya, who sizzled in a red hot sari in the first teaser of "The Dirty Picture", feels people were unable to picture her sensual side, and so she was never offered an item number before.
"I don't think anyone could believe that I could be so sensual. I am still not a dancer. But I have begun to enjoy dancing more so," she said. – IANS

Amitabh Bachchan back home, upset with paparazzi’s insensitivity

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 10:56 AM PST

Amitabh Bachchan is relieved to be back home after a 12-day stay at the SevenHills Hospital here. However, the megastar says he had a tough time reaching his home thanks to "insensitive" paparazzi.
"The paparazzi, though kept away from the premises of the hospital, were there at the entrance and throughout the journey home, blocking the movement of the car by standing in front and on top of the vehicle, which was disturbing. I have yet to see them understand the sensitivity of a situation such as this," the 69-year-old posted on his blog bigb.bigadda.com.
Amitabh was operated upon Feb 11 for abdominal issues, and was under observation at the seven-star medical facility ever since. He was discharged Thursday evening, and several still and video cameramen crowded around his car for footage. This disturbed the veteran star.
"A patient just released from hospital needs to get back to his home and secure from the travel, to it, as soon as possible, but I guess they (media) would rather get their exclusive photograph than have such consideration. A pleasant request falls on dumb ears and anything stronger than that shall be legitimate invitation to their wrath, of being manhandled," added the actor, who feels his reaction to the media's behaviour could spiral into another controversy.
"A complicated procedure would then follow resulting in nothing, but a severe negativeness against the celebrity, and more. One has learnt over the years that any thought of controlling them is futile. Better then to tolerate this excessive intrusiveness and move on," he wrote.
Amitabh also posted a picture of the scenario outside the hospital, and wrote: "Just an example of how media and paparazzi block my car, not allowing it to move, insensitive to the need of its just released ailing occupant to get home secure and as rapidly as possible."
For now, he is thankful for all prayers for his speedy recovery.
"The surgery discomfort and soreness persists, but will take a while to finally erase itself from the pain glands, but in all, apart from a sluggish movement, god's grace and prayers of the EF (extended family) have put me back on track again. My most gracious thanks to all," he wrote. – IANS

Bollywood posters go dare bare with women

Posted: 23 Feb 2012 10:46 AM PST

Chiselled abdomens, cleavage, the body contour…Bollywood filmmakers are zooming in on women's curves to create titillating posters, aimed at crucial first week collections, perhaps emboldened by today's liberal censors.
The first look of Vikram Bhatt's production "Hate Story" creates a mystery about the woman in the picture but sends out the right message about the film's content – bold and daring. It has a mystery girl with her bare, tattooed back visible and a gun placed strategically at the back of her jeans.
" 'Hate Story' is a brave film. Of course, everyone wants eyeballs for the film, but one can't have a sizzling poster and then have nothing inside the film. I feel the poster is a very tame representation of a film and so I have to say that 'Hate Story' is really brave and pathbreaking in its content," Bhatt told IANS.
Until the "Hate Story" poster was launched Wednesday, the first look of Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt's "Jism 2″ and "Blood Money" were the talk of the tinsel town.
Film historian S.M.M. Ausaja, who has a book "Bollywood In Posters" to his credit, has an interesting observation.
"Over the years, it is the first week's collections that matter the most now. All filmmakers are desperately trying to cover their costs in their first week. To cover that, they uncover women in posters," Ausaja told IANS.
"Titillating through posters is not a new thing. Years ago there was a movie called 'Chetna'. It had a very bold poster. But I feel now the film industry has come to a stage where even if it has 10 percent sensual content, filmmakers try to cash in on it with such gimmicks."
The peekaboo into "Jism 2″, a movie which promises to be more sensual than its prequel "Jism", has a well-endowed woman, Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone, lying naked with a wet white sheet covering her. The shot is bold, yet subtly seductive — enough to generate curiosity.
While the poster of "Blood Money" is more direct and in-the-face, with Amrita Puri dressed in a bikini, striking a suggestive pose with a bare-chested Kunal Khemu, and both lying in a pool of money.
In recent times, Bollywood has seen an array of films with suggestive posters: "The Dirty Picture", "Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster", "Dum Maaro Dum", "Dev D", "Kurbaan", "Julie", "Paap", "Sins" and the long-awaited "Rang Rasiya".
"The Dirty Picture" had bold and beautiful Vidya Balan in a cleavage-baring, itsy-bitsy red blouse, standing undaunted even as three men – Naseeruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi – were clicked too close for comfort in the poster.
Dusky beauty Deepika Padukone's wild side was unleashed when the first look of "Dum Maaro Dum" was unravelled. The poster had a zoomed in side look at her washboard abs, and her long, curly tresses resting stylishly over her bosom.
Kareena Kapoor bared her toned back for the poster of "Kurbaan", in which she was seen getting up, close and personal with her beau Saif Ali Khan.
The poster of Emraan Hashmi-Jacqueline Fernandes-starrer "Murder 2″ was steamy too, and so was the glimpse into Ketan Mehta's "Rang Rasiya", with Randeep Hooda and Nandana Sen seen in a suggestive position.
Bhatt notes: "Bollywood per se has always flirted with the bold film. But now with liberal censors, people are able to try bolder stuff — adult content for an audience that is not judgmental, for an audience that is not embarrassed to watch sensuality." – IANS

Shruti Haasan admits getting nose-job

Posted: 23 Feb 2012 10:36 AM PST

Actresses usually shy away from discussing their cosmetic surgeries, but Shruti Haasan has no problems in admitting that she went under the knife for a nose-job before her Bollywood debut. However, she clarifies it was for medical reasons.
She says she went in for a corrective surgery in the US because she was facing breathing problems. She revealed on BIG CBS Love's show "India's Glam Diva" that she went through a septoplasty because of a common disorder involving a deviated septum.
Shruti, who made her Bollywood debut with "Luck" in 2009, and is also a singer, was apprehensive about undergoing the surgery for fear of it affecting her voice.
Post-surgery, life has become a lot easier, she said, adding: "I am able to sleep peacefully and sing without any difficulty. It is a minor procedure and I am greatly relieved."
The 26-year-old, daughter of veteran actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika, will share more details of her nose-job on the show, to be aired Sunday. – IANS

Saif Ali Khan in trouble for assaulting South African

Posted: 22 Feb 2012 11:46 AM PST

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was in trouble Wednesday after a South African businessman accused him of abusing and hitting him and his father-in-law at a five-star hotel here.
Police, who failed to trace Saif at his Bandra house Wednesday afternoon, later found him at his actress-girlfriend Kareena Kapoor's residence, a police officer said.
Police said a case of assault had been registered against the Bollywood actor at the Colaba police station.
Despite speculation that Saif would be brought to the police station, nothing happened for hours. Meanwhile, army of reporters assembled outside the police station and some even parked themselves outside Saif's residence.
The victim, Iqbal Sharma, who is of Indian origin, told TimesNow television that Saif called him an "idiot" for complaining about the actor's loud conduct at a restaurant in the Taj Mahal Hotel.
Sharma said he and his family had requested the restaurant manager to ask Saif and his friends, which included Kareena, Amrita Arora and Malaika Arora Khan, to keep their voices down.
Sharma said he and his family decided to move to another part of the restaurant downstairs.
"As we were going down the stairs, Saif was coming up, probably from the toilet. As he passed me, he called me an idiot and asked 'Do you know who I am?'"
Sharma said the actor first pushed him and then assaulted his father-in-law who fell on the stairs and bruised his jaw.
"It was an uncivilized way to behave in a public space," Sharma said, adding that he intended to pursue the matter legally.
A police officer confirmed that Sharma and his guests had objected to the noise created by Saif and his friends.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight Tuesday.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Iqbal Shaikh declined to say if the actor would be arrested.
Saif has been involved in public spats earlier too, including some photojournalists in Patiala in September 2008.
The actor has won the Padma Shri award, which did not go down well with the Bishnoi community in Rajasthan as he is accused of killing a blackbuck — an animal the Bishnois hold sacred. Saif was charged with poaching as the blackbuck is on the endangered list. – IANS

Bollywood’s Feb 23 strike called off

Posted: 22 Feb 2012 11:42 AM PST

Bollywood's planned strike Feb 23 to protest against the imposition of a service tax on the film industry has been called off after a meeting with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, industry officials said Tuesday.
"This strike has been called off. We had a meeting with the finance minister and he has asked us to wait till the budget," producer Ratan Jain told IANS.
"He understood our problem and then we decided not to go for strike till March 16 until the budget comes out. So, all the multiplexes and Bollywood will continue to move on without any strike on Feb 23," he added.
Film Producers' Guild vice president Mukesh Bhatt also said that after the positive meeting with the finance minister, they have decided to remain patient till the budget.
"His hands are tied right now and I will respect that. I am glad about the fact that he heard our plea patiently and has asked us to wait till the budget," he said, adding they will wait till March 16 and then take a decision on their future course of action.
The industry seems to be relieved with this decision.
"It's a fair decision as ultimately we are here to do business and not to strike. Since the finance minister has promised to look into the matter, we shall wait till the budget," said producer Kumar Taurani. – IANS

These are tough times for Big B

Posted: 20 Feb 2012 09:30 PM PST

amitabh bachchan
These are tough times for Bachchan family as the megastar Amitabh Bachchan as the actor is supposed to undergo yet another surgery post two abdominal surgeries he has already had in the past week.
Big B's post on his social networking site has established the fact that the actor's condition is serious. His post read,
"The night started off with great apprehensions, what with the temperature of the fever going up – always a dangerous signal. But the mercury fell during the night, or in today's terminology the digital reading in these modern contraptions, showed improvement and by the morning there was a freshness and hope of repair," he posted late Thursday night.
"Soon afterwards though, the additional pain that has developed in the abdomen, apart from the surgical, kept doctors busy and going into a huddle. Whenever they do that, I always surmise there is something more than normal in the patient. Heavy dosages of even more antibiotics were pumped in, and to facilitate this operation they had to wheel me into the OT again to put a 'central line', through an incision on the neck.
"There are more doctors now being called in for consultation, for second opinion… hmmm… a lapse of some time, friends drop by inquiring after and then the doctors again… they do not differ in the analysis of the earlier doctors… so treatment remains, pain remains and I remain with you – my sincerest of well-wishers," Big B added.
amitabh_akshay_big "I refrain from giving greater details of my condition… in the west patient has the right to not disclose – even to family!! I realise anxious members of EF and TwFmXt need to know…whenever there is some important procedure, will inform," Big B tweeted Thursday.
It may be mentioned here that Amitabh's recurring abdominal condition is a result of a near fatal injury on the sets of "Coolie" 30 years ago.

I am not that typical girl next-door who restricts herself with one look and that is what I love about the designer."
