The South Indian movie music world shared the grief of noted playback singer K S Chitra, who lost her eight-year-old daughter in a swimming pool accident in Dubai on Thursday. "The family came back from Dubai yesterday morning and the funeral was held in Chennai in the evening," Chitra's manager Krishna Kutty Menon said. Chitra had been to Dubai along with her family to perform in the A R Rahman's show and was staying in a villa there when the accident happened. Nadana, a differently- abled child, fell into the pool while playing. Chitra had named her daughter after the Malayalam movie Nandanam for which she received the Kerala government's award. |

Mahavir Jayanti is a religious festival celebrated by Jains to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira. Gujarat and Rajasthan are the two states where the Jains are thickly populated compared to other states and so the birth anniversary of Mahavira is celebrated in a grand way. Mumbai, April 15 - It seems television channels are adapting to new technologies to be the best in the business as Star India has upgraded its top-five channels with high-definition (HD) technology and also unveiled new corporate logo - Hot Star. Their leading channels - Star Plus, Star Movies, Star Gold, Star World and Nat Geo will be available in what they call Asli (real) HD. The content will be shot in HD, recorded and edited in HD and mixed for 5.1 Dolby surround sound, said a statement. 'The launch of Asli HD today is a testimony to our commitment to offer our viewers world class media experience. With Star's massively popular entertainment channels turning HD, a high definition revolution is set to kick start in India. This is just a glimpse of a slew of exciting initiatives, we will roll out in coming months,' said Uday Shankar, CEO, Star India. Viewers will need a HD television set to enjoy the experience. To mark two decades in India, the group also presented its new corporate logo - the Hot Star, which symbolises the zeal to continuously innovate, create and invent for the 21st century India. London, April 15 - Fashion designer John Galliano has reportedly been sacked from his own fashion label. Christian Dior, which owns 91 percent of Galliano's business, has now received 'expressions of interest' from a number of companies willing to purchase it. Contactmusic.com reports the current in-house design team for the brand is being asked to create a new pre- spring collection. John Galliano's show at the Paris Fashion Week earlier this year was axed at the last minute following an anti-Jewish rant. Only a small number of editors and buyers were allowed to see the collection, and he was not in attendance. After the event, Galliano checked into a rehabilitation facility in the US and released an apology for his action. 'Anti-Semitism and racism have no part in our society. I unreservedly apologise for my behaviour in causing any offence. I was subjected to verbal harassment and an unprovoked assault when an individual tried to hit me with a chair having taken violent exception to my look and my clothing.'
