Bangladesh v Ireland: Shafiul Islam secures Bangladesh vital victory

Posted: 25 Feb 2011 09:32 AM PST

Bangladesh 205 (Tamim 44, Botha 3-32, Johnston 3-40) beat Ireland 178 (Shafiul 4-21) by 27 runs Bangladesh's bowlers held their nerve to atone for the failures of their batsman, as the pluck of the Irish proved insufficient to overcome the most fervent atmosphere of the World Cup so far. In a gripping, low-scoring encounter at Mirpur, Bangladesh flirted with disaster as they squandered a flying start from Tamim Iqbal to crash to 205 all out, and when Ireland reached 93 for 3 at the halfway mark of their reply, they were well on course for a hugely deserved victory. However, six wickets for the Bangladeshi spin quartet set the stage for a flying finish from Shafiul Islam, who claimed 4 for 21 in eight hostile and reverse- swinging overs, to seal a wildly acclaimed victory by 27 runs with

I did too many drugs and chicks to run for office: George Clooney

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 06:21 PM PST

London, Feb 24 - George Clooney has revealed why he will never become a politician. The Hollywood star, who has campaigned tirelessly for the people of Sudan, said he wasn't squeaky clean and his bad boy past could come back to haunt him if he ever held office, reports the Daily Mail. "I didn't live my life in the right way for politics, you knowI f***ed too many chicks and did too many drugs, and that's the truth," he said. The ' Oceans 11' star joked that his political slogan would be "I drank the bong water" - a reference to smoking marijuana. Clooney, who is currently dating Italian singer Elisabetta Canalis, told Newsweek magazine he wanted to use his celebrity power for good. "Celebrity can help focus news media where they have abdicated their responsibility. We can't make policy, but we can encourage politicians more than ever before," he said. (ANI)

Deepika's sensuous new look

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 06:17 PM PST

Deepika Padukone is ready to take on Munni and Sheila. The lissome beauty' s set with her hot item number in Rohan Sippy' s film Dum Maaro Dum, presented by Fox Star Studios, releasing on April 22. And this one promises to be very different from the earthy Munni and the tease of Sheila. It' s going to be out and out irreverent, we are told. For the first time, audiences will get a glimpse of her oomph. "Deepika transforms into a super sensual girl in the recreation of this iconic song," says a source. The song is closely guarded; it was shot with minimum crew around, apart from the dancers. There was a lot of planning that went into Deepika' s look. Apparently, an even skimpier skirt was chosen for her initially, but the director and choreographer felt that it was restricting the dance movements. Rohan Sippy is glad with the way the item song has shaped up. "Deepika is naturally very sexy, but she has never done anything this brazen. It is a very irreverent attitude that she needed to carry apart from being sexual on the screen. DMD is an attitude, it is all about breaking free. Breaking free from conventions, fears and taboos," he told TOI. Deepika may manage to steal a bit of Bollywood' s biggest sex icon Zeenat Aman' s thunder, as she steps into the remixed version of DMD!

Salman leaves Katrina frustrated

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 11:45 PM PST

The actress who was keen to
work with SRK, Hrithik finds
herself sharing screenspace with
Salman again! B-Town has gone berserk
contemplating if Salman Khan and
Katrina Kaif will actually work
together in Kabir Khan' s (of ' New York' fame) next directorial venture produced by
Yash Raj Films. Now, not many
know that though Katrina was
always on board, Salman Khan
wasn' t the production house' first choice to play lead actor. Apparently, Shah Rukh Khan was
offered the role first, Hrithik
Roshan was next in line...
However, ' date problems' was a cause of concern and the script
ultimately landed in Salman
Khan' s lap. So while Salman Khan is taking his time in negotiating
his price with Yash Raj Films,
Katrina, we hear, isn' t the happiest person. A source close to the actress
tells us, "Katrina has worked with Salman before. She was
looking forward to working with
some new actors. Shah Rukh
Khan and Hrithik Roshan
would' ve been a great opportunity, she thought." However, she is now all set to
romance ex-boyfriend Salman
Khan on screen - that is if he
agrees to do the movie in the
first place.

I feel extremely lucky: Bips

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 11:44 PM PST

Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu,
whose journey in showbiz began
in 1996 after winning the Cinthol
supermodel contest, says she is
extremely lucky and proud of
her achievements. "I just realised my journey has
been quiet a long one, from 1996
to 2011. It's only me who knows
how much hard work and
dedication has gone behind
everything. I have been honest with my profession and brought
the best of me on the screen,"
Bipasha told reporters here. Dressed in a formal white outfit
with black beads and sequin
work on it, she came for the the
launch of Versace collection of
watches in collaboration with
Timex Group. "I feel extremely lucky when I
look behind in my life. I am proud
of myself and also proud of what
I am today. I used to dream of
having such luxury brands and
now I effortlessly own so many of them," said the 32-year-old,
who has a fetish for watches. "The one object that I love the
most is the watch. It is a must
have possession for everybody.
It is also my favourite gifting
option. "All the watches that (actor)
John (Abraham) owns are gifted
by me. Now I think his collection
is set to have a Versace watch,"
she said.

Britney Spears faces multi-million dollar lawsuit for her new single video

Posted: 20 Feb 2011 10:13 PM PST

London, Feb 21 - Britney Spears is being accused of plagiarism and will face a multi-million dollars lawsuit for the video of her new single 'Hold It Against Me' which debuted last week. The singer is accused of "ripping off" the rock ballad If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me by the Bellamy Brothers. According to reports, the American singers claim Spears' song is too close to their own 1979 hit which topped the charts in six countries, and David and Howard Bellamy are set to met with lawyers. "Howard and I have no personal beef with Britney. She's a talented gal. But professionally we feel completely ripped off," the Daily Mail quoted David, as telling the Daily Star. "We will without doubt take the appropriate legal action if our attorneys agree we've been ripped off," he added. A spokesman for Britney told the paper: "If this is now a legal matter then I am afraid we would have nothing to say until our lawyers have been alerted." (ANI)

Saudi Arabia needs public cinemas, says Riyadh mayor

Posted: 20 Feb 2011 10:13 PM PST

Riyadh, Feb 21 - Public cinema houses, which are banned in Saudi Arabia, have got themselves an unlikely supporter. The mayor of Riyadh has said cinemas can be monitored by the government so that Islamic religious laws are not violated. Until recently, speaking in public about the virtues of public cinemas remained a taboo in Saudi Arabia. Officially banned in the kingdom, controversy erupted in the past few years after some citizens began calling for the opening of public cinema houses and others criticising their demands, Gulf News reported. However, the debate got a boost after the mayor of Riyadh, Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Ayyaf, said the Saudi capital was in need of a public cinema. If such a cinema was to be opened in Riyadh, it would be monitored by the ministry of culture and information, like how it was done in Bahrain and Dubai. A number of Saudi films have been shot in recent times in neighbouring countries, where Saudi citizens also often travel to watch movies. In 2009, the first Saudi film in three decades was screened at the Riyadh- based government-owned King Fahd Centre. Only men and children were allowed to attend the film, obeying instructions from religious police who view such activities with concern because they believe going to the movies could lead to mixing of the sexes and violating Islamic values. Saudi citizens watch films via satellite channels and DVDs. IANS

What’ s Madhavan’ s idea of perfect romance?

Posted: 20 Feb 2011 05:46 AM PST

For actor R. Madhavan, the idea of a perfect romance is getting locked inside a room with wife Sarita with lots of DVDs and food. The actor, who is busy promoting his upcoming romantic comedy 'Tanu Weds Manu', is planning to jet off with Sarita to a cold place for four days and stay locked up in a comfortable room and watch movies without being disturbed by the outside world. Madhavan, who married Sarita in 1999, admits that he cannot advise married couples as he is still learning the ropes himself. 'Hand over your money to your wife as she can definitely look after it better than you. When you have an argument, don't try to prove a point just because you are the man of the house. Look at the final outcome, and you'll see that women always manage to wrestle a victory,' he said.

No social networking for SRK

Posted: 19 Feb 2011 08:21 AM PST

All efforts were being made by the channel for which Shah Rukh Khan is hosting a reality game show that SRK makes a comeback on the net. However, those plans have tanked. SRK had gone off his social network following abusive language against him by a couple of people who were using the net space to give vent to their personal vendetta against him. SRK was very hurt and he decided to call it quits. Now, despite the channel trying their level best to coax the superstar to stage a comeback, SRK is in no mood to enter the dodgy domain.

Salman or Hrithik for Farah?

Posted: 19 Feb 2011 08:20 AM PST

Considering Tees Maar Khan did not set the box-office cash registers ringing, will Farah Khan go back to casting Shah Rukh Khan in her next? After all, the actor had proved to be lucky for her both in Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om. Plus, her recent patch-up with Khan at an awards ceremony also supports this argument. Alternatively, for all you know, Farah may end up surprising everyone by repeating Akshay Kumar in her next. While rumours do their bit, we hear, Farah' s next film will be co-produced by UTV and her company Three' s Company. Grapevine also has it that the film will star either Salman Khan or Hrithik Roshan. Coincidentally, these two actors were in the news (and how!) for their verbal combat over Guzaarish two months ago. At an event, Salman had commented on the film and said, "Arre, usme toh makhi udd rahi thi, lekin koi machhar bhi nahi gaya dekhne. Arre, koi kutta bhi nahin gaya." Hrithik had shot back, "It' s not heroic to laugh or make fun of a filmmaker just because his box- office collections are not up there with yours. Guzaarish is a super success in its own way. In my opinion a hero never gloats. When you are super successful, it should in fact make you more gracious and loving." Not so long ago, Mumbai Mirror had hinted on Farah' s shift towards Hrithik, when she upset the broadcasters of Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega by signing the dance reality show Show Me you Can Dance, which has Hrithik as one of its judges. Who Farah chooses to cast will become apparent with time but her vision for the film is clear. Farah wants to stick to her original style of filmmaking even in her new project. It will be a film based on dance and will have a lot of action sequences as well. Farah, we hear, has almost finished the first half of the script of her new film. She is now working on the second half. When contacted, Farah said, "I will think of casting once the dialogue draft is ready."

Vanessa Hudgens sought comfort food during intense ‘ Sucker Punch’ filming

Posted: 19 Feb 2011 08:18 AM PST

London, Feb 19 - Actress Vanessa Hudgens has revealed that she found filming for new movie ' Sucker Punch' so "draining" that she sought comfort food to ease the stress. Hudgens, 22, plays a member of a group of female inmates, alongside Abbie Cornish and Jena Malone, who try to break out of an asylum in the forthcoming film. She trained with a team of experienced Navy officers for the role, but she admits the actresses all ditched their diets once they began filming the dramatic scenes. "Some of the scenes were really intense. I haven't done that much heavy drama before and some scenes were just so draining," the Daily Star quoted her as telling Total Film magazine. "We would all be a total disaster afterwards and cheat on our diets together and eat cake to comfort ourselves," she added. (ANI)
