The film has collected Rs 6.75 crore, which is the biggest paid preview collection by any Bollywood film till date.

In UK too, the film received an unprecedented response. Even though the film had only night show previews on Thursday, it collected £142,220, beating the record of Bollywood films 'My Name Is Khan', 'Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna', '3 Idiots' and 'Ek Tha Tiger'.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the film's business on Friday, "Let's begin the day with a SMASHING news. ChennaiExpress smashes all previous records, collects Rs 33.12 cr on Friday. Creates HISTORY."

He further writes, "ChennaiExpress Thu previews 6.75 cr, Fri 33.12 cr. Total: 39.87 cr nett. India biz only. All previous records shattered. Creates History!"

'Chennai Express' to become the biggest Bollywood release in UK

'Ek Tha Tiger' had earned Rs 32.93 crore on its first day.

"What a start it has been for Chennai Express, first it collected record numbers in paid previews followed by biggest opening day ever. We have received an overwhelming response from all quarters and the film is being loved by everyone. Though CE is playing in highest number of screens for any film, we still ran out of capacity in most locations due to this huge demand at the box office and the film is on its way to create new benchmarks," says Gaurav Verma, Director - India theatrical distribution, Studios, Disney UTV.

"The film has smashed all opening day records at PVR by a significant margin. Now CE holds the record of biggest opening day at PVR- if you add previews, this number becomes even bigger. We were always confident of film doing well thus backed it with maximum show caning and right ticket pricing," - Prakhar Joshi, Head, Programming, PVR Cinemas.
