The Discovery television network on Friday said it canceled plans to air a reenactment of the autopsy on Michael Jackson's body, citing an upcoming court hearing and concern by the late pop star's estate. The show, "Michael Jackson's Autopsy: What Really Killed Michael Jackson," had been set to air in several countries of western Europe and in the United Kingdom on January 13. "Given the commencement of legal proceedings beginning next week, and at the request of Michael Jackson's estate, the scheduled broadcast of the medical documentary related to Michael Jackson's official autopsy has been postponed indefinitely," Discovery Networks International said in a statement. A Discovery spokesman declined comment beyond the statement. Co-executors of the estate responded in their own statement saying they were "pleased" with the decision. The "Thriller" singer died suddenly of a prescription drug overdose on June 25, 2009, age 50, only weeks before beginning a series of comeback concerts. An autopsy by Los Angeles officials showed Jackson died chiefly of an overdose of the powerful anesthetic propofol that he used as a sleep aid. Discovery's show, which was not scheduled to air in the United States, was an unofficial, fictional account of what the autopsy must have been like and its results. But Jackson fans worldwide protested in an online petition launched earlier this month, and the co-executors of his estate sent a letter this week to Discovery Networks calling the program "insensitive" and "in shockingly bad taste." A print advertisement for the program shows a body covered by a sheet, with one hand poking out wearing the singer's well-known sequined glove. Following Discovery's decision, McClain and Branca released a statement saying, "we are hopeful that this show will never run in any market in the future." "While Discovery cited legal proceedings and our request as the reasons for its decision, none of this would have happened had it not been for the incredible passion displayed by countless Michael Jackson fans worldwide who knew they stood as one and that their voices could not be ignored," the statement said. Jackson's physician at the time of his death, Dr. Conrad Murray, has admitted giving the singer propofol, which is often used in surgery, and Murray has been charged by authorities with involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death. Murray has pleaded not guilty, and a preliminary hearing to determine if enough evidence exists to make him stand trial begins in Los Angeles on January 4. |

World number one all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named as the captain while hard hitting opener Tamim Iqbal was named as the vice-captain for the year 2011, a press release issued on Friday by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) reveals. The announcement of Shakib' s captaincy on a permanent basis was expected, but it is Tamim' s new role that has come as a surprise to all. In fact, even Tamim himself was equally surprised at this news which has made our talisman top order batsman' s New Year celebrations more enjoyable. "I never knew that I will be given the charge of the vice-captain but I am really happy that BCB finds me best suited for the role," said Tamim who was as surprised as others. "I have always tried to be responsible in the field and after today I will always try to live up to everyone' s expectations," he added. On the other hand, Shakib said, "Tamim has always been a helping hand in the field. The main difference will be before he helped un-officially and now but he has a role to play with responsibilities." Shakib was first seen as the skipper for the Tigers after Mashrafe Bin Mortaza' s injury at the Caribbean back in July 2009. He has been leading the team since then but was never declared as prominently by BCB until yesterday evening. |

The year 2010 for the Tigers has ended well with two back to back series wins and winning the gold medal in the Asian Games after cricket was included as a discipline for the first time. However, the start though was not too different from any of the previous years. In regard to individual achievements, the Tigers were always under the limelight throughout the year. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan placed his name in the history books by debuting as the first ever Bangladeshi in the English county cricket. We were all quite certain of his success as he performed consistently to maintain the number one ODI all-rounder spot for the last two years. On the other hand, swashbuckling opener Tamim Iqbal was named as the Wisden Cricketer' s World Test Player of the Year in 2010, taking over the title from Shakib who was selected for the same honour in 2009. Tamim scored an impressive 837 runs at an average of 59.78 in seven Tests in the year 2010, a feat we have never witnessed in the Bangladesh Test arena before. TEST Though Bangladesh played seven Tests in total in the year 2010, unfortunately in none of them were they able to taste victory. First in line was the home series against India in January, where dashing opener Tamim Iqbal showed his domination over the visiting bowlers with a knock of 151 runs. It was the solitary occasion that made the series special for the local boys. The Tigers' bad form continued till February when Bangladesh was defeated by 121 runs by the Kiwis in the only Test at Hamilton while on tour to New Zealand. Against England at home territory in March, Tamim was the lonely hero who stood and fought against the English bowling attack scoring three half-centuries in a row in two Tests. Again in May-June, Tamim' s aggression over the English continued but this time at the home of cricket along with speedster Shahadat Hossain. In the first Test at Lords, Shahadat reached the milestone by putting his name up on the honours board at Lords as the first ever Bangladeshi to pick up five wickets haul in the first innings. But before the Bangladeshis could end cherishing about such an achievement, Tamim after scoring a fifty in the first innings, added the icing on the cake by striking a magnificent hundred and naming himself as the first ever Bangladeshi to score a century at Lord' s, also joining the honours board with Shahadat. Although all the heroics went futile as the Tigers still lost the first Test by eight wickets. Yet again in the second Test, Bangladesh were defeated by an innings and 80 runs at Old Trafford. Tamim still managed to strike another brutal century to add to his tally and eventually ending as the highest Test run getter of the year 2010 in the Bangladesh side. ODI 2010 will be the highlight for Bangladesh' s success in the ODI circuit. With the first ever ODI win against England and series wins against Zimbabwe and giant-killers New Zealand, the Bangladesh team narrowly missed out on clinching the eighth position in the ICC ODI rankings. Starting the year with a tri- nation series at home against team India and Sri Lanka, the Bangladeshi lads could hardly manage the floor for themselves as Sri Lanka bagged the series by defeating India in an eventful final in Dhaka. In March, England sealed the three match ODI series with ease but Bangladesh shocked the world on their visit to England in May by defeating them for the first time in English grounds. England was the only Test playing team undefeated by the Tigers, but the task was done with perfection in the second ODI at Bristol where Tigers won the match by five runs. Then in October, the dream series against the Kiwis at home showed a different dimension of Bangladesh cricket. Sealing the series by 4-0, Bangladesh wrote history by whitewashing a full- fledged Test side for the first time. Although the second match of the five match ODI series was abandoned due to rain, Bangladesh managed to win all the other matches convincingly. In the first ODI, Tigers secured a nine run victory by the D/L method. In the third ODI, Bangladesh continued their tremendous form and thrashed the New Zealanders by seven wickets. By then, Tigers made sure they were not losing the series anymore adding on pressure to a demoralised Kiwi side. But the Tigers were in no mood for drawing the series and with skipper Shakib' s valiant century, Bangladesh gave a target of 241 runs in the fourth ODI. In spite of Ken Williamson' s heroic century, the local boys won the match and the series with one match to spare. In the dead-rubber final ODI, the visitors were yet again defeated by three runs and Bangladesh capped this history whitewash series win. In December, the five match ODI series against Zimbabwe turned to be the dessert for ending the year. They comprehensively won the series 3-1 after the fourth ODI at Chittagong was abandoned. The Tigers now hope to carry forward this form into the ICC World Cup in February 2011. T20 After a shocking performance in the T20 World Cup in April at the Caribbean, Bangladesh played their only T20 against New Zealand at Hamilton in 2010 Although the Tigers came close to defeating Australia, they lost all of their matches and failed to move into the Super Eight. In the match against New Zealand at Hamilton, hardly any of the Bangladeshis managed to put some runs on the board and eventually ended up setting a target of 78 runs losing all of their wickets. In reply, the openers of the Kiwis ripped up the Bangladeshi bowling attack, with Brendon McCullum' s 56 not out and Ingram' s 20 unbeaten runs were enough for an effortless win by 10 wickets. |

Tishma believes in dreaming; that is why she never gave up even though she faced many ups and downs in her career as a singer. She did a number of experiments with her music – from pop to rock, folk to classical, and more. Initially she was misled to sing a few songs that did not suit her voice. But with time, Tishma became more serious about her career and singing. She was happy to share her hopes and dreams with the readers of daily sun. How did you spend your thirty first night? I was in Qatar. I performed in a show organised by the Bangladeshis who live there. The night was full of fun and music; I enjoyed it a lot. How do you plan to spend the first day of 2011? My family is here with me. Together we will have as much fun as we can. Usually I try to spend the whole day with my family every year. I will wish Happy New Year to all my friends and other family members. What are your wishes for 2011? Personally, I wish for one thing for myself. I am usually a very lazy person. I always procrastinate, and then start doing or preparing for something at the last hour. I want to change this habit of mine and turn into an organised person who does everything on time. I also wish that the overall crime situation of our country, especially violence against women, will get better. How are your studies going? It' s going well. I am currently studying Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering at North South University. I am planning to go abroad for higher studies. When does your next album come out? I am working on my next album. This time I am doing some compositions as well. I' m afraid it will take some time to release the album, as I am being very careful about the production. I will only record songs that suit my voice. My band and I are busy with composing the songs. We are composing many songs, and later we will choose the best songs to record for the album. |
