Director Milan Luthria's Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara (OUATIMD) has opened to an overwhelming response at the Indian Box Office on its first day. Despite facing tough competition from the last week release Chennai Express, the Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha starrer has done a superb business in the domestic market in a limited number of screens on the Independence day holiday. Trade experts had predicted that Chennai Express, which is having a dream run at the ticket counters, would take a toll on the business of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara on its opening day. But the gangster crime flick, which released in 2,000 screens on August 15, proved their calculation wrong.


This week, it is a clash between titans at the Indian Box Office as Akshay Kumar and Imran Khan have locked the horns with Superstar Shahrukh Khan. Their first combo film Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara , which hit the screens on August 15, has been having a tough time from Chennai Express, yet it is enjoying good amount of collection by leading the race in the domestic market.

Released in 2000plus screens on Thursday, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara opened to a very good response on the first day. Despite increasing its screen count to 2500plus, its business dipped considerable on Friday. But the movie picked up well on Saturday. It has collect approximately Rs 36 crore nett at the Indian Box Office in three days. Its breakup is Rs 11.29 cr on Thu, Rs 10.27 cr on Fri and Rs 13.6 cr on Saturday.

Whereas Shahrukh Khan's last week release Chennai Express, which lost out many screens to the new release, witnessed more than 80% drop on its second Friday, when compared to its opening day collection. The movie showed improvements in its business on Saturday. It has collected approximately Rs 6 crores on Friday and Rs 8 crores on Saturday at the Indian Box Office, taking its nine-day-domestic total to Rs 170.70 crores nett.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara received superb response with its occupancy ranging between 75% and 90% on its opening day. The film ran to packed houses in many centres across the country. It has collected approximately Rs 11.25 crores nett at the Indian Box Office on the first day of its release. Considering its limited release, the first day business of the film is very good, feel trade experts. The makers of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara have reportedly increased its screen count from 2,000 to 2,500+ on Friday. Trade analysts feel that the expansion in its screen number would definitely boost its collection over the weekend. Will it beat the opening weekend record of Akki's biggest opener Rowdy Rathore? Story The movie begins from where the prequel Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai ended. Only this time, it is Akshay Kumar who is Shoaib Khan instead of Imran Hashmi who played the role in the first part. Shoaib, a successful don who assassinated his mentor, the previous don Sultan Mirza has now earned his share of respect. OUATIMD is set in the 1980s of Bombay, where Shoaib's sole interest is the supremacy of Mumbai, but his heart is swayed by a lovely lady called Jasmine (Sonakshi Sinha). In the movie, Shoaib is like a godfather to Aslam (Imran Khan). Aslam was spotted by Shoaib during one of his visits to the slums. The tagline of the movie says 'This time it's personal' and yes, we do see a lot more than crime and killing. When Shoaib's passion for Jasmine grows into something more, there arises a rift between the young Aslam and godfather Shoaib. The two vie for Jasmine's love.

An upside-down kiss between Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra bears a striking resemblance to a smooch in the Bollywood super kiss in superhero film Krrish 3.


Hrithik Roshan's superhero franchise is quite popular among lovers of hard-core action. But according to sources the upcoming installment is said to have a high dose of romance as well.


Insiders say Hrithik and his heroine Priyanka Chopra apparently have a lip-lock scene in the film where the actor is hanging upside down. Now, haven't we seen that before?

A similar kiss was shared by Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst in Spiderman where the superhero is shown hanging upside down.


A source says, `The makers wanted a kiss between them but with a twist. They didn't want a run-of-the-mill smooch scene. It sure will grab a lot of eyeballs. It's close to the kiss in Spiderman.`

I am a person who likes to musty everything in life. I don't do anything that doesn't excite me. So, while I was busy doing television shows and commercials, I got the opportunity to do adult films. And here I am. My upcoming release is the sequel to a comedy. It is a fun 'only-adults' film.

Opportunities Exploring

I have taken a break from daily shows. I want to explore interesting roles in the Hindi film industry. Of course, comedy films interest me as I enjoy good humour. Also, I am game to host a reality show on television.

On the day off

Since I am busy shooting most of the days, I prefer to spend my leisure time with my mom. There's no place like home, I like to sit with my family and catch up. If my friends are free, then they drop in for lunch or dinner.

Otherwise, I sleep it off. Whenever I get the time, I take off for a long drive. I also like to go out and pamper myself in a salon; massages are a great form of relaxation.

To unwind, I like to listen to light hearted romantic numbers. It immediately cheers me up. My favourite song is Rolling in the Deep by Adele.

I work out everyday, do my functional training and run a lot. As far as food is concerned, I just cannot diet. I eat rice but I compensate and burn the calories by running.

 He is playing a cameo in wife Porno star Sunny Leone starrer, Jackpot, but Sunny Leone's husband Daniel Weber says he has no plans to have a career in Bollywood. Daniel Weber, who is the manager of Sunny Leone and owns an adult film production house in United state of America , said he did the Kaizad Gustad film because the director requested him. "I don't have
any Bollywood aspirations. I don't want to act in films. I own a production house in the United state of America and I look after the business by sitting here. I also have to manage Sunny's schedules. I am quite busy in managing all these commitments," Daniel told Times of India..

Daniel is also taking Hindi classes with his actress wife but he said that he is learning the language to run his business smoothly here. "As we have shifted our base to India and are currently staying in Mumbai, it is very important to know the language of the country. I am not learning Hindi because I want to have a career in Bollywood," he said.

Daniel Weber, who has acted in adult films before, said he is playing a foreigner in the film, which will hit theatres next year. "We were shooting, Jackpot, in Goa and Kaizad needed someone for a cameo role. He approached me with the offer and I couldn't say no. I am playing the role of a conman and also share screen space with Sunny," he said.

Sunny Leone may have had a thumping start in Bollywood but looks like it's no longer sunny days ahead of her in terms of her upcoming Hindi film.

According to sources, the Ekta Kapoor produced film has overshot its budget and the crew wants to rework on certain portions of the film after they came out unsatisfactory.

Insiders also say that Sunny, who is quite miffed about the recent developments, is probably planning to ask for more money for allotting extra dates.


Bhushan Patel, who is helming this sequel of Ragini Sexi MMS, says, `I shot with Sunny Leone from January to March and after we saw the film, we thought that the film's second half could be better. We re-wrote few of the portions and some scene were added. As per now, only the songs remain to be shot and a few days here and there.`


However, the adult film actress' husband Daniel says in Sunny's defense, Never would we ask for extra money since it is a norm to shoot songs later. A friend of Ekta denies the buzz, Just some patchwork and two songs are left to be shot.

SRK Historical Train 'Chennai Express' is a big hit in Karachi

It's a raining collections for SRK-DP train Chennai Express, which has continued to keep the bells ringing at the worldwide Box Office. The collection of the Rohit Shetty-directed movie has historical crossed Rs 200 crore mark in the global market in just six days. The movie has beaten the previous record of Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger, which had taken more than 10 days to surpass this mark. Chennai Express, which released in 3,500+ screens in domestic mark on August 9, opened to an overwhelming response and collected Rs 100.42 crores nett at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend. The movie, which continued to rock on weekdays, has collected Rs 34.37 crores from its screenings on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Now, its six-day domestic total stands at Rs 134.79 crores nett.

The Shahrukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer released in 700+ screens in 11 foreign countries. Chennai Express collected Rs 50.47 crores nett at the International Box Office in the first weekend. The movie has also done superb business on weekdays by collecting approximately Rs 25 crores nett. Now, its six-day overseas total stands at Rs 71 crores nett. Historical movie Chennai Express has collected a total of Rs 205.26 crores nett at the worldwide Box Office in six days. Today (August 15) happens to be a national holiday in India and trade expert feel that the movie will surely collect Rs 30+ crores in the domestic Box Office on the seventh day, taking its global total close to Rs 250 crore mark in the first week.

The Shahrukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer historical 'Chennai Express' has become a huge hit in Karachi.

The Rohit Shetty directorial movie eclipsed all other releases on Eid day by a big margin in Pakistan, the Dawn newspaper reported Thursday.

"Being Pakistanis, we like to promote our films. Therefore, we ran 'Ishq Khuda' for two days but it didn't attract sufficient audiences," said Aziz Khan, general manager of Capri cinema.
"On the other hand, Historical train 'Chennai Express' is doing a roaring business from the first show."

Anita Kenneth, head of marketing at Atrium Cinema, added: "From day one ...Historical train 'Chennai Express' has been sold out."

"It's a typical Rohit Shetty comedy and masala movie. Then, of course, the glamorous Deepika Padukone is in the movie."

Chennai Express' has broken several records, be it the fastest 100 crores at the box office in India within the first four days, the highest international opening of 51 crores, the highest preview collection of 6.18 crores amongst others. Looking at Shah Rukh Khan, you can see he is happy. Whether you are or not a friend or fan of Shah Rukh, there are three things you have to grant him — his generosity, his unabashed capacity to promote and his clarity that records are made only to be broken. Excerpts from a conversation with the extremely charming and satirical man:

What makes you India's biggest star internationally?

I have no idea. I think I just look really cool. Aristocratic world class looks.

Chennai Express has broken several records. What does that mean to you?
It's very nice, but, as far as I am concerned, none of these records matter as they will be equalled or bettered in a few months and they should be. Carl Lewis can't sit on the laurels of being the fastest runner. Usain Bolt will come and that's how it is and it should be. Anyone who keeps harping on records will get stuck in a time warp. Anyone who keeps bothering about records will not make a film from the heart and anyone who keeps desiring records will have the darkest time creating stuff.

So, I don't indulge in either of the three. The good thing is that the business of Hindi films will become bigger. With 1.2 billion people, our openings will be equal to international films. Personally, the film has done what it was meant to do. It was meant to involve maximum number of people from big or small unit families, ranging from the kids to the grandparents. Everybody is liking it. An 80-year-old lady met me yesterday and hugged me saying, 'I enjoyed the film and so did my eight-year-old grandson'. The film bonded them as they both laughed at the same things. When I get tweets from people in Mauritius to Mazgaon saying the same thing, it's really nice.

With the film crossing 100 crores (net India theatrical) in just four days, are you now targeting the 200 crore number?

If I give a number, I am limiting myself. I want as many people to see the film, be it today on Independence Day or the coming week, they should throng the theatres and see the film. People are seeing it multiple times, which today seldom happens, and I think it will turn out to be a longish running film.

While TOI rates both realistic and popular cinema based on reader tastes, some critics take themselves too seriously and have given the film as low as 2 stars. Has the success of the film defied critics' ratings?
You defy things that are important. There is no defying in story liking and story telling. You just like something. I am a filmmaker for 22 years. I loved The Hangover part 1 and hated part 2, but it did as much business. It's very subjective. People have preconceived notions. They evaluate realistic with popular and do not like to rate popular cinema well. Cinema should just be gone to and seen and you make up your mind after the film. If you tell me about a film you didn't like, but if I have to see a film, I will still see it.

Every critic has his or her right to have his or her opinion. I have never thanked a critic for giving a good rating nor have I ever questioned a critic for his opinion. I am not nice to people so that they review my film well. I am nice to them, as I am just a nice guy. I have made the film I wanted to and can tell what kind of films critics like or not like.

One unanimous thing one hears about you is your generosity. And the beauty is you never talk about it. Did you inherit it?

I have no reason to be anything else, genuinely. I have everything in the world. Some people tell me I am generous as I am scared and that is why I am always nice to people. Allah Miya said, 'If you are giving for a reason which is personal, then it is not charity. In Islam, a part of anything we earn should, in any case, be given. My mother used to tell me the story of Prophet Ali. He was breaking casks of wine because drinking is discouraged in Islam. He kept breaking casks till he reached 99, when he realised 'Kitna achcha kaam kar raha hoon' in the name of God. So that time, it had become a personal thing as he was feeling proud about it. I am extremely generous with people I deal with. Allah has given me so much because of me being like that.

My children sometimes say, 'Papa, that person was like that and you are still being so nice.' Let me tell you a Sant Kabir doha even though it may sound cliched: Jo toku kaata boye (the one who pricks you with a thorn), Tahi boye tu phool (you take a flower and prick him back), Taki phool ke phool hai (your flowers will remain flowers), Wako hai trishul (it will be like a trishul to him and he will realise his mistake)

We were poor and if you came to our house, we had a dining table on which there was just one vase, which was the only piece of adornment we had. If someone came to our house and said that it looked nice, we understood that he was saying it because that was the only thing he could compliment us for. But, before he would walk out, my father would have packed it in a newspaper and given it to him. That's how I have been brought up. If somebody tells me they like something, I give it to them. Both my parents were extremely generous. In our house you never had to ask, you just had to say. I found out later after my mother died, that there was a loan she had taken of five lakhs just so that I could have a Maruti van in college. I had not asked her for a car but had just told her that my friends came to college in a car. She bought it fully knowing that she could not afford it.

My kids don't ask for anything. I give them so much that they are fulfilled. I always take a gift for them, but they always say, 'Why papa?' You have to give enough. I know I am generous and so are both my kids. It's very strange that one of them looks like Gauri and one like me, but their nature is just like me. They both have a sense of humour. They both read, have anecdotes and stories to tell and are giving in nature.

Is Gauri serious?

She is actually a joker and is really funny.

After so many years of marriage what do Gauri and you like the most about each other?
The space we give each other. We have never had an issue of why are you doing this, have dinner now, spend time with the kids. There is no binding. We have known each other too long and have a tacit understanding in our relationship. The kids really bind us and we both have a great time with them.We have a great sense of entertainment in our kids. Don't know how they will turn up when they grow up, but at this point they are an interesting set of toys.

You are considered a generous producer. You don't have a problem putting in your own money. Is that true?
I do put in my money. If I remember my last film RA.One has not paid me. I put my fees into the film. I give my blood and sweat for a film. It's easier for me to make money doing opening ceremonies of people's shops and programmes. If I decide to, I can make money in 30 days than what I can make in 10 films as an actor.

What are people liking about Chennai Express?

This film is a little different from a Rohit Shetty film, and a little different from me and it's the little difference that has made all the difference. '66 years of independence and you can't be considered independent till your women have a say in life.' To me that is the most important thing in the film. Gauri's dad saw it and said, 'Mujhe jo achcha lagta hai yaar woh yeh hai ki acchi achchi batein ho rahi hai, haste bhi ja rahe hai log and aap achchi batein bhi kar rahe ho.' People are enjoying that and it has a universal appeal.

Who did you share your excitement with first of the big opening? An award has never been a vindication for me. I have 14 Filmfare awards. Every award I would alternate and put it in Suhana or Aryan's bedroom. When they would wake up, they knew whose turn it was and for them, it just meant that their papa is doing well. On Saturday, both my kids came to wake me up and by that time, there were lots of messages on the phone about the opening, so I shared my happiness with them.

You have redefined how a film is promoted?

If you are proud of something, you should talk about it. Most importantly, promotion is for informing people and is not just about being seen. It's for informing people about your product, as it will improve the chances of them seeing it. I have nothing else to do. This film, for my company Red Chillies, is very important. It's a huge film and you get such chances once in 10 years. My friends' production houses have had big films be DDLJ or Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. For Red Chillies, it was Om Shanti Om and now Chennai Express. The film will make big monies for the company and will help them run other businesses they have and help them take up exciting stuff in the future. times of india
